Richards Industries
Richards Industries is a leading provider of a variety of industrial valves for the chemical, petrochemical, pharmaceutical and food processing industries. Other sectors include paper products, tire and rubber, machinery and electrical equipment, transportation equipment and energy industries. We are dedicated to finding new ways to improve our manufacturing processes, our existing products, creating new products, reaching new markets and responding faster to our customers’ needs.
Due to some recent growth, including some internal promotions, the company had to add additional staff in sales and manufacturing.
The company held a job fair and was assisted by OhioMeansJobs Cincinnati – Hamilton County business services representatives. Ten candidates were identified with good work histories and solid work ethics. However, due to the specific technical nature of the positions, some skill gaps were identified.
By participating in On-The Job Training Reimbursement Program through OMJ, Richards Industries was able to hire the candidates with the greatest potential and provide valuable training to new hires. The program benefitted Richards Industries by off-setting extraordinary training costs associated with hiring new employees.
Ten of the newest hires will be going through a three month in-depth machine operator class, conducted on-site in conjunction with Cincinnati State. The classroom learning will immediately be put to use with ongoing on-the-job training on the shop floor. The training benefited the new hires by providing training that costs thousands of dollars to acquire and positioning them to advance in the growing field of high tech manufacturing.
“The on-the-job training grants have allowed us to hire some candidates who wouldn’t normally be considered qualified, due to the lack of a specific set of skills needed in manufacturing. We found the process extremely easy, and we’re very grateful for the help!” said Cheryl A. Neiheisel, vice president of human resources.
